VEA’s Summit on Educators of Color – Growing Together: Incorporating, Sustaining, and Enhancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice will be held February 16-17, 2024. The location will be the Richmond Marriott Downtown, Richmond, Virginia. The goal of the summit is to inform policy and promote best practices and greater diversity in hiring methods in K-12 education throughout the Commonwealth. We also aim to empower and support new educators of color. Additionally, we are committed to providing resources and up-to-date insights on the most effective approaches for experienced educators and those dedicated to advancing racial and social justice.
The keynote speaker is Dr. James E. Ford, an award-winning educator and consultant on issues of equity in education. He is Principal Consultant at Filling the Gap Educational Consultants, LLC. and the Executive Director of the Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED). Dr. Ford is a former high school world history teacher who now writes and speaks extensively on the topics of race, class, and education equity and advocates for the most disadvantaged student populations.
Have your voice heard! Embark on a transformative journey in this plenary session, where you’ll not only envision but boldly articulate your ideals for the future of public education! Engage in dynamic think-pair-share activities, participate in stimulating small group discussions, and contribute to expansive large group reflections. Walk away empowered with actionable insights, ready to champion diverse avenues for advocating on behalf of students and educators, as we collectively strive to reimagine a more inclusive and effective public education system for all.
